Old Man Winter To Pack A Heavy Punch In Michigan This Winter
Meteorologists say La Nina in Pacific will pile on the snow throughout Michigan during the 2011-2012 winter season.

"Harsh, brutal, snowy and cold. What other adjectives can I use?" AccuWeather.com meteorologist Henry Margusity said of his company's winter forecast for the Great Lakes region, released Wednesday.

"Southeastern Michigan might be enjoying warm temperatures and baseball at the moment, but the weather is going to turn after Thanksgiving, and it's all downhill from there," he said.

The villain in the forecast is the same one responsible for last year's cold and snowy winter: La Nina, a vast area of cooler than normal ocean temperatures in the tropical Pacific.

"The average snowfall for winter in this area is about 41 inches, but we could see up to 55 inches this season," Margusity said.

"There will be a few mild spells of warmer weather mixed in as well, but when push comes to shove, people will say, 'Wow, what bad weather!'"

Very active storm tracks will bring heavier than normal precipitation to most of Michigan.
